More than one-in-three British people believe electronic cigarettes should be made more widely available to smokers, according to a major survey by commissioned by the UK’s leading brand E-Lites.

Some 36 per cent of survey respondents said electronic cigarettes should be more accessible to smokers, while 43 per cent agreed in principle that the recent introduction of the products represented good news for smokers. However, 47 per cent said they didn’t know enough about e-cigarettes to give an opinion, which supports calls for more education about the products’ benefits for smokers.

The E-Lites survey, carried out by USurv.com, questioned 1,000 members of the public about their attitudes to smoking. Respondents comprised of 25 per cent regular smokers, 12 per cent occasional smokers and 63 per cent non-smokers.

Asked which three things they disliked most about smoking in general, the most common answer was the smell, cited by 58 per cent of respondents, and this was closely followed by bad breath, cited by 46 per cent of those surveyed.

This suggests the outward effects of smoking and their impact on personal appearance are more important to image-conscious Britons than the damage to health. Only 37 per cent selected damage to smokers’ health as a main thing to dislike, while 38 per cent cited the impact of smoking on the health of non-smokers as a key cause of complaint.

With the latest budget announcement pushing the average cigarette pack price to £7, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the top complaint among smokers was the rising cost of smoking, with 69 per cent naming that as their main gripe.

Yet 83 per cent of overall respondents confirmed that they were aware of electronic cigarettes such as E-Lites, which are an alternative option for smokers. Around one-in-three appreciate that electronic cigarettes are healthier than conventional cigarettes and only slightly fewer acknowledge that the smoking ban does not apply to these smoke-free products.

Interestingly, only 13 per cent accept that electronic cigarettes are cheaper than normal cigarettes, despite E-Lites, for example, being 70 per cent cheaper than their conventional counterparts. It’s estimated that a typical 20-a-day smoker would save around £162 per month by switching.

E-Lites, founded in 2007, is the UK’s most established brand, providing smokers with a reliable electronic device that’s safer, cleaner, healthier and cheaper than tobacco cigarettes, as well as being legally unrestricted for use in public places. The absence of tar, tobacco and other toxins allows E-Lites users to avoid the damaging effects of smoking, while still enjoying a familiar experience of nicotine inhalation. Being free of nasty smells and smoke, E-Lites present no passive smoking issues and are therefore far less objectionable to non-smokers.

E-Lites co-founder and director Adrian Everett said: “We commissioned this survey to get an accurate picture of how Britons feel about smoking in 2012. The results are extremely interesting. While smokers are fed up with the rising cost of tobacco cigarettes, non-smokers in particular object to the nasty smells, smoky environments and bad breath that are associated with smoking. It’s therefore not surprising that almost half of the British public agree that electronic cigarettes like E-Lites are a welcome innovation, simply because they eliminate all of these complaints in one. That’s precisely why we are working hard to further increase the availability of E-Lites throughout the country.

“However, what we also recognise is that many other people in the UK do not feel sufficiently informed about electronic cigarettes, so we must continue trying to educate the public about the advantages of these products as opposed to their increasingly outdated tobacco predecessors.”

E-Lites (www.e-lites.co.uk) was established in the UK in 2007 and is already a leader in its field, producing some of the most advanced electronic cigarettes on the market. The company is expanding nationally and internationally as demand grows for its innovative products.

Its latest range of new-generation E-Lites are the result of extensive UK research and development.

The evolution of E-Lites has been supported by significant investment in design and testing to ensure its electronic smoking devices are made to the highest standards and deliver the most authentic and luxurious smoking sensation possible. The company’s manufacturing facility uses the latest state of the art micro-electronic technology, ensuring E-Lites set the standard within the electronic smoking industry. E-Lites are globally patented, internationally trademarked, and are backed by an international parts replacement guarantee.

Michael Ryan, one of the founding directors of E-Lites, is also chairman of the Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association (ECITA), a representative body which provides advice, guidelines and support to members, as well as working to ensure the correct regulatory framework is applied to such products. For more information, visit www.ecita.org.uk

First pole of the year for Williams Randstad F1.
Congrats to Pastor Maldonado.

Williams F1 back on top on to celebrate Sir Frank’s 70th birthday!

As an official partner of the Williams F1 Team, Randstad has reason to celebrate after a fantastic win at the Spanish Grand Prix last Sunday (13th May 2012) in Barcelona! Pastor Maldonado’s brilliant performance secured the Williams F1 Team their first race win since the Brazilian Grand Prix eight years ago.

Randstad has been the official partner of the Williams F1 Team since 2006 and our partnership stems from the similar belief in talented teams performing to the best of their abilities and always “striving for perfection”.

‘’It’s an unbelievable feeling winning my first race. The car felt really consistent, was fantastic to drive and our pace was strong throughout. The team has worked so hard all year and this win is for them. To be the first Venezuelan to win a Formula One race is a big honour and hopefully I will win more races in the future,” said Maldonado.

Randstad have extended their sincere congratulations to Pastor Maldonado and the Williams F1 team for this amazing accomplishment! “This win has increased our excitement for the upcoming Montreal Grand Prix taking place in just a few weeks and we can’t wait to find out how the Grand Prix race will unfold here in Canada!”.

PR and Marketing specialist, Friday’s Media Group will be getting back to nature this month, after winning yet another new client - that’s the fourth in only two months!

Friday’s PR, which has offices in both London and Milton Keynes, has recently won the approval of Creative Nature; one of the UK’s leading health food companies.

Friday’s will now handle the branding, marketing and PR for the sustainable and ethical organisation, whose products are sourced from some of the most remote and untouched corners of the earth.

Friday’s already represents healthy brands such as Lifeplan and Active Honey, so the Friday’s team hit the ground running for their new client with an appearance at the Hampton Court Foodies Festival, where visitors were introduced to Creative Nature with flapjacks, brownies, biscuits and a choice of energy boosting smoothies - all made with amazing, nutritionally dense superfoods including goji berries and cacao nibs.

FridaysPR.com managing director, Richard McCann commented: “Creative Nature has more than 8 years experience of sourcing only the most nutritionally dense, organic superfoods available and we’re thrilled to be welcoming them to our team. Just like Creative Nature we pride ourselves on delivering quality and value, and we’re thoroughly looking forward to working alongside them and playing a major role in developing their business.

Friday’s latest wins join a group of national and international clients including Randstad, Lifeplan, Active Honey, C-mii, PayFones, Studio Anne Carlton, DRS, Spy Games, E-Lites, IMC Group, KORG UK and PRGX.

Your correspondent Nigel Glennie goes to the heart of the matter when he asks what problem electronic handbrakes are designed to solve. My car now has electronics controlling keyless entry and start, auto wipers and lights, and a radio that’s more complicated than my laptop. In decades of driving, I’ve never failed to realise when or how to turn on my lights or wipers when required, nor has unlocking a door been a problem I’ve needed to solve.

A chap must have a dream, preferably one that involved moustaches, but surely it wouldn’t involve the metric system?

Sir, “Chap” R. J. Humphries says he aims to visit an Antwerp bar where a 30cm moustache qualifies for a free drink (“Chaps give young hoodies a dressing-down in Savile Row”, Apr 24). But surely no proper chap would understand metric measurement; or indeed voluntarily socialise with someone who did.

School for danger

While I enjoy fast cars myself, isn’t Steve Mann’s apparent requirement (“Rushing to judgment”, Letters, last week) that a child is killed or injured as proof of danger before implementing a peak-time speed limit outside a school rather severe?

Greece goes into meltdown. Cameron and Merkel’s best mate Sarko gets the boot. Blackburn gets relegated and Liverpool lose the Final. And the LibDems are set to walk away from the coalition while Tory backbenchers are revolting. Very.

And in an act of the nauseating callousness VoucherDigg.co.uk uses a photo of Madeleine McCann released by her parents soon after she disappeared to illustrate deals offered by lowcostholidays.com. Boycott!

It’s at times like this that even the most optimistic of us need to do some serious thinking to assess the relative merits of a duvet day or working to come up with a new Friday’s Creative campaign.

Fortunately for the sake of our mortgages and our brains, we’re still being entrusted to work with some top brands.

The KORG win has helped us to pitch to The Guitar Library (a great music-supply biz used by the BBC and Opra to name drop just a couple!). The C-mii phones using NFC (near field communications) will be a sensation later this year and Creative Nature is the latest health business to join our expanding client base – I’ll be running marathons if I eat all the media samples!

And of course we’re hugely proud that after our work with The Prince’s Trust and Catherine and William’s wedding we were entrusted to handle publicity for the beautiful Royal Family chess set chosen by her Royal Highness to commemorate the Jubilee.

We are doing things around the Olymp***s too, but according to the authoritarian brand police (see blogs passim) it’s far too scary to use the word Olympicz (see what I did there?) happening this Zummer (taking no chances now!).

Even scarier than using a hosepipe. Assuming we needed to.

In an effort to escape the drought (irony alert) I’m off to France for a few days. And really looking forward to the Olympic-standard three hour queues to get back into my home country. Gulp – I wrote Olympic in connection with a marketing blog. Visit me in prison, Sundays 2:30-3:30.

Hey now – here’s a way to get happy without Prozac plus it’s a free plug for a good team of people while I’m about it – tune your DAB, radio App or Real Player to Smooth Radio 70s http://www.smoothradio.co.uk/music/smooth-radio-70s/c97fb and see how long you can listen without singing along. Byeee.

To help ensure optimum health and fitness this summer Olympic hopefuls Jon Schofield, Liam Heath and Rachel Cawthorn are including a new kind of honey in their diet – Active Rainforest Honey!

Last month two man 200m sprint kayakers, Jon Schofield and Liam Heath and women’s 200m and 500m sprint kayaker Rachel Cawthorn, were buzzing when they secured their places in the Team GB Olympic canoeing squad to compete in the London 2012 games this summer.

All three athletes have been including the highly potent Active Rainforest Honey from Chile in their diet, provided by their sponsor, Lifeplan, one of the UK’s leading providers and exporters of quality nutritional products for the past 29 years.

The 100% pure Chilean honey is derived from the unpolluted and uninhabited volcanic areas of Chile and it is incredibly potent because it is raw and unpasteurised to maintain activity and biopotency. As a traditional edible honey it is available in four active strengths,10+, 20+, 30+ and 40+ with clinically proven health and wellbeing benefits include successfully tackling coughs, colds, sore throats, mild digestive complaints and dry skin conditions. Also available as an antiseptic topical honey, when applied directly to the skin it can improve dry skin conditions and assist in healing minor wounds including blisters – surely a must have for all Olympic athletes this summer!

The three athletes have been taking a spoonful of Active Rainforest Honey at night to help them burn fat whilst they sleep. Honey is historically well-known for its medicinal and healing properties and research also suggests that it may aid weight control too.

Jon Schofield commented, “Taking Active Rainforest Honey helps me cope with the demanding lifestyle of an athlete whilst maintaining a strong immune system and staying healthy.”

Rachel Cawthorn who started canoeing through a talent identification scheme, added, “Active Rainforest Honey is great! It has become a staple part of my diet; I add a teaspoon full to my yogurt, muesli and fruit bowl as part of my first breakfast of the day. Tastes great compared to other fancy honeys and has useful weight-losing properties too. Handy for trying to get down to “race weight” at this time of year. There is a fine balance between pushing training as hard as possible and staying healthy, so dosing up on Rainforest Honey to help support the immune system is a great bonus. ”

The London Olympic Canoe Sprint events start on Monday 6th August at Eton Dorney, Windsor and Lifeplan managing director, Jamie Christie is looking forward to watching the sprint canoe team.
He says; “Lifeplan has sponsored Jon Schofield, Liam Heath and Rachel Cawthorn for quite some time. I have got to know them well and am delighted that their dedication and hard work has paid off. Everyone at Lifeplan is extremely proud of them and enjoys following their progress. We have always made sure they have a constant supply of products whether they are in the UK or training in South Africa! We wish them the best of luck and I am looking forward to August.”

Add Active Rainforest Honey to your diet and feel the buzz like our Olympians!

The Active Rainforest Honey range is available directly from Lifeplan’s online shop at www.lifeplan.co.uk, from Boots, Morrisons, Harrods Pharmacy, independent health food stores, pharmacies and other online health retailers.

What is the Friday’s PR technology team researching into at the moment?

Friday’s PR are constantly looking at novel ways of harnessing and harvesting hits and additional internet exposure for their clients by using all the new and natty social networking tricks and gizmos.

We are looking at HTML5 and CSS3, so that we can dispense with the baggage of old buggy Adobe Flash. We are testing new SEO and SEM code to completely capture the interests of the search engines and our clients.

FaceBook and Twitter are increasingly old hat. They’re still working for clients but we sense boredom creeping in. We are very Pinterested but non-plussed with Google+.

We like Siri and everything that Apple has to offer, the big cats from OS X are still in command, Snow Leopard, Lion and the up and coming Mountain Lion… we have tamed them all! Watch out for the new MacBooks, Air and Pro., iMacs and iPhone which are just around the next few bends in the track. Touch screens will be joining on the next lap.

Tim Cook and the late Steve Jobs are still powering the market. Do you remember when Microsoft was king? It seems a long time ago. Now where Apple leads, the rest attempt to follow. In the browser race, forget Internet Explorer. IE usage is down to less than 20 per cent of the market. Chrome and Firefox are on the ascendant and Safari is getting a lot of airplay.

The iPhone and the iPad are increasingly more fun to use, even in an enterprise setting and we are developing some groundbreaking Apps to maintain the lead on our contemporaries.

It’s a great time to be playing with the newest internet technologies; never a dull moment. Not so much a job as a life-long learning curve. Around every corner is another exciting script, program, theme, widget, gadget or App.

With over forty years worth of programming experience, we are definitely on the leading edge. All very here and now!

Friday’s PR is maintaining its reputation for being quick, clean and savvy. There are no hidden costs, we are amazingly upfront. By the time our rivals find out what we are up to, we are not only into the next chapter, we are on to the next book and planning an omnibus.

However you like your PR, whether it is off-line, on-line, press, print or video – we have the ideas for you. Loads of them. There goes another one! We have two offices full of bright and exciting people, just waiting to propel you in the right direction.

As they say at VW… Up!

This week, David and Samantha Cameron’s new nanny discovered the power of digital reputation management. And she discovered it the hard way.

One might have thought that people would, by now, have realised that what they say online not only spreads, but is stored. It doesn’t melt like a footprint in the snow – it’s stored forever in permafrost and it turns up like a bad penny just when you’re least keen to see it.

First of all, let’s cast our minds back to January 2009, when a photograph of swimmer Michael Phelps smoking what allegedly appeared to be a spliff was circulated online. Overnight his hard-earned multi-million dollar sponsorship deals floundered. His reputation was the most valuable currency he had. And ‘thanks’ to the web, searching Michael Phelps on Google immediately found unhelpful links ranked way above those about his undoubtedly outstanding achievements built up over many years.

Before the web, a negative article in a newspaper or a stroppy letter from a dissatisfied customer was here today and gone tomorrow. You could choose to leverage the good and bury the bad! But now, those comments – be they good or bad, be they in articles or social media, can be immediately accessed worldwide, both now and for years to come.

Someone who appears not to understand this is Sammi Strange. The 24-year old former advertising sales assistant now has a serious job – nanny to our Prime Minister’s children. So naturally, a quick Google of her name was the obvious first job for the media as soon as the appointment was announced. I’m sure most of us could have anticipated that. One might have thought that Ms Strange might have expected it when she applied for the job. It seems not, because she has used the time before the application to complete a survey published online, very kindly volunteering interesting information about herself which she shared with the world. How trusting. For instance, Sammi was allegedly good enough to announce that she swore “F**k yeah!” and she drank “Hell yes”. She also – a huge thank you from the world’s media for this one Sammi – allegedly admitted that she was a shoplifter.

Within seemingly no time, news of her appointment went from the jubilant: “Sammi Strange, 24, won over British PM David Cameron and wife Samantha in long-distance Skype interviews after her resume was plucked from a nanny agency” http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/aussie-woman-sammi-strange-slips-into-no10-downing-st/story-fn7×8me2-1226338264395 to the openly mocking:“Aussie Sammi Strange is nanny to UK PM’s kids. Social media profile says she likes swearing, drinking and sushi” http://www.news.com.au/world/sammi-strange-do-i-like-to-swear-f-yeah/story-e6frfkz9-1226340728828#ixzz1uDGxp9vF

Her dad says the whole thing was a joke. And I’m sure it was. Hell yeah. Let’s just hope she’s still laughing.

From a graduate looking for their first job, an experienced professional seeking to advance their career or a business wanting to keep ahead of the competition, the internet is where your reputation can flourish or flounder. Monitoring, managing, protecting and promoting your reputation is the key to increasing your visibility online. PRs have the experience to give you real world strategies and step-by-step tactics to using your online reputation to protect and enhance your name or your brand.

Find out how to maximise your online visibility.

Gain new customers or clients.

Define your reputation online using simple steps and techniques.

Get your details to where your target audience can find them.

Find out which social media networks are right for your professional circumstances.

Think music-making is just for superstars in studios? Not anymore. The pocket-sized KORG KAOSSILATOR 2 puts the power to create your own tracks in the palm of your hand.

KAOSSILATOR 2 is a mini synthesizer with an intuitive touchpad that enables you to easily build your own tracks without any musical training.

So if you’ve ever fancied yourself as the next David Guetta or Gorillaz, this is the pocket-friendly gadget of 2012.

It builds on the phenomenal success of the original KAOSSILATOR, which was loved by artists including Lily Allen, who said “I’ve been having so much fun with my KAOSSILATOR on stage and while travelling… It’s so easy to come up with cool beats and crazy sounds.”

This new version offers more features, more style and more flexibility than ever before, with an enhanced sound generator that lets you create synth and drum combinations across a range of genres, from R’n’B to D’n’B.

Packing 50 years of electronic music expertise into a sleek handset that’s only a little bigger than a mobile phone, KAOSSILATOR 2 is a pick-up-and-play powerhouse.

Designed to be exciting and easy-to-use, you create your sounds by stroking, tapping or rubbing the touchpad, then loop them into continuing patterns. You can even layer two loops together to make DJ-style mixes. What’s more, the built-in mic lets you add your own instruments or vocals, and you can save the whole thing onto a microSD card, as well as playing it back via the built-in speaker or headphones.

To help ensure you sound amazing, the scale functions even eliminate ‘wrong notes’.

Check out this video to see how a track can be created with the KAOSSILATOR 2… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmQeP3y1F2w

At about a quarter of the cost of a top smartphone, the battery-powered KAOSSILATOR 2 is the palm-sized synthesizer that allows anyone, anywhere to make the music they want.

KAOSSILATOR 2 (RRP £155.99) is the latest addition to KORG’s incredible family of electronic music products, whose star fans include Calvin Harris, Muse and Little Boots.

E-Lites electronic cigarettes are getting rave reviews in the media as their popularity among British smokers grows to record levels.

Reviewers at FHM, Mixmag and a range of websites have heaped praise on E-Lites, the smoking alternative that’s cheaper, healthier and safer than standard cigarettes.

During a recent feature on smoking in FHM magazine, E-Lites were hailed as a great success after a reader put the leading electronic cigarette brand to the test to help alleviate her 10-20 day habit. She said: “I nearly always have an electronic cigarette rather than a proper one. All my friends thought they were weird, but now they think they’re amazing and everyone wants one.”

E-Lites also survived the festival test when a Mixmag editor trialled them at a major music event last month. “I haven’t smoked a real ciggie since March 16th so that’s great. I’ve been singing their praises too.”

The electronic cigarette brand has also recently been trumpeted by Geekoid.co.uk as a healthier alternative to smoking “as (E-Lites) literally deliver the nicotine hit, without any of the poisonous smoke affecting you or the others around your vicinity. Oh, and …. you’re legally allowed to smoke them in restaurants, pubs and clubs.”

Ahead of No Smoking Day in March, E-Lites electronic cigarettes were featured in the Metro newspaper as ‘fags without the drag’.

Unlike standard cigarettes, E-Lites are free of the most damaging ingredients, such as tar, tobacco and other toxins. Instead, a measured amount of nicotine is inhaled in the form of a steam-like vapour to provide satisfaction without the nasty side-effects. Hundreds of thousands of UK smokers are now using E-Lites to reduce the harmful effects of smoking.

For those trying to cut down or quit traditional cigarettes, E-Lites electronic cigarettes offer an effective replacement aid to help control the amount of nicotine entering the body. They also have the added advantage of being legally unrestricted to smoke anywhere.

E-Lites founder and co-director Adrian Everett said: “We’ve been thrilled by the response from the media recently and there’s clearly growing public awareness about the advantages of E-Lites electronic cigarettes. Our products have introduced a new ‘harm reduction’ option for those who can’t quit smoking completely or simply don’t wish to, and we’re confident that 2012 will be our biggest year yet.”
